Friday Rant: Spend Matters Idol -- "The Purchasing Blues"

Sometimes you just need to laugh at yourself. Even though I usually reserve Friday Rants for topics and ideas that I take issue with -- and perhaps even laugh at on occasion -- on this particular Friday the humor is entirely self-deprecating. A few weeks back, I was part of a jam session with Corporate United's Jeffrey G, who moonlights as a professional singer songwriter. I attempted to back him up on bass for a rousing version of his "Procurement Blues" at a pre-party for the event. Jeffrey has some serious talent. As for me, you can see why I have multiple day jobs. Still, I must admit it was a blast, despite being the weak link of the duo. Listen closely to Jeff's lyrics, as they are quite appropriate for many of us today, living the "Procurement Blues".

Maverick's Gravatar Wow, Jeffrey has some serious chops!
Good effort JB - keep it up.
Funny - I just got done watching a Jeff Beck DVD (Live at Ronnie Scott's) and there was a teenage girl named Tal Wilkenfeld who was playing Bass who was amazing. Great DVD. Don't let it discourage you though - you're as young as you feel!

Gary Hare's Gravatar I really couldn't hear the bass, did someone uplug the amp?

Seriously Jason, you and Jeff just made my Monday!

Let me know if you need a rhythm guitarist who can't sing...

Robert's Gravatar awful audio - had a hard time hearing - I think these are the lyrics (found on another URL)
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well, it's time to raise a fuss
and it's time to raise a holler
About diminishing returns
from the corporate dollar
I just heard from my boss
who governs me
If I don't save the cash
he's gonna fire me
Sometimes I wonder
What I'm gonna do
If there ain't no cure
For the purchasing blues
My CFO he told me to
go beat on the supplier
That his margins must be high
while ours are under water
So I talked to the supplier
he said costs were elevated
He was losing all his money
at the rates we had created
Sometimes I wonder
What I'm gonna do
If there ain't no cure
For the purchasing blues
So I found a consultant
told her about my problems
And she went and discovered that
the supplier was just stalling
Material costs were falling
and the exchange rate was fair
I had wasted all my time
just pulling out all my hair
Next time I have a problem
I'll find me a solution
I'll find a sourcing expert
and get my retribution
No more will I wonder
What I'm gonna do
I'll find me a cure
For the purchasing blues
