Endeca -- The Spend Management Spoiler?
A geek at heart, I'm always interested in disruptive technologies that might be lurking around the corner. What might be one such vendor in the Spend Management world? Search and navigation provider Endeca might very well fill the bill. While Endeca has only recently begun to spin its offering around procurement and spend visibility, they have tremendous potential to turn a search and navigation interface which makes today's spend cube feel and work like ENIAC into a revolutionary procurement tool, with a functional design and UI that helps unearth opportunities that were previously impossible to find. While it's early going in the Spend Management world for Endeca, I have no doubt we'll be hearing more from them. And when we do, all of the existing incumbents in the spend analysis world would do well to take notice.

There is a great deal of similarity between navigating a spend cube and hunting up items at Home Depot. As I type this it sounds sarcastic but, I've spoken \ met with Endeca and I'm convinced that there are opportunities to use the tool for spend analysis. Navigating spend with automated attribution provided through Endeca could provide surprising results. For a company that is lagging behind in Knowledge Management it holds a great deal of promise as well. All the way around it is a tool \ technology that deserves a second and third looks.
