Spend Management or Stupid -- Tales From The Kitchen ...
Earlier today, I grossed out my wife. She told me that she was headed to the store to buy new baking ingredients (she is making me a cake for my birthday during the long weekend). Even though we have everything at home, she said that she saw some little bugs in at least one of the core ingredients she needed for her recipe. I told her that up until the past 50 years, little bugs were a thing of life in cooking and baking. And one of the whole reasons for a flour sifter was to get rid of the little critters. Every weekend when I make waffles or pancakes, the sifter comes in handy that way, I said. Then she looked a bit green. So you tell me. Is this Spend Management in the home or just stupid? I see nothing wrong with sifting out a baking bug or two (not an infestation -- just a couple) and using the rest. Not that I'd throw away my marriage on the point, but in the spirit of saving money and the environment, why should anyone get so upset over such a minor thing?

Have a great birthday and Thanksgiving.
If Lisa's squeamish about flour bugs, I guess you better not tell her how many insect parts and rat hairs are in the average "milk chocolate with almonds" type candy bar.
Or what's *really* in a hot dog.
Etc.
You seemed to have misunderstood two key implied terms in every wedding vow.
1. "Yes, Dear, I love you." is the correct answer.
2. When attempting to win an argument with one's wife the winning move never involves getting external validation that you are right and she is wrong.
PS - Eric, this goes for you as well.
But Jason, I'm happy to create a little side dish for you made with your little critter friends. :)
Considering Lisa's hourly value as a consultant, the Total Cost of Ownership of this cake is exorbitantly high.
This is a make vs. buy decision that should have clearly been made in favor of "buy" (unless Lisa belonged to an automotive union, in which case this type of forced "make" decision is par for the course and a contributing factor to the tin cup shaking going on in Washington, but I digress...)
Well if a couple of bugs in the flour "bugs" Lisa, you'd better not tell her the truth about Ketchup.
Truth be told, ketchup has approximately 75 bug parts in every ounce!
