The Ariba / Procuri Deal -- AMR's Take

AMR Research just released their take on Ariba's acquisition of Procuri (registration and membership required). In the brief, Mickey does an excellent job highlighting what the deal means from a financial, customer, competitive landscape and product perspective. If you're an AMR subscriber, I'd strongly urge you to check out what she has to say (and if you're not and you care about solid analysis in the sector, it's further reason why you should be).

Michael Lamoureux's Gravatar If you're a midsize business or larger ... how many small businesses, especially boutiques, have $10K to $25K to throw around just for research report access? In comparison, Aberdeen allows a manager or researcher at a non-vendor or consultant firm access to a report library (no advice) for as little as $400 a year ... and then there's the IEEE, full catalog access starting at $420 a year for members (memberships start at $200 / year) ... and all the analysts in the sector put together wouldn't even come close to that volume of material ... not in the sector, but still ...

Jason Busch's Gravatar We'll see ... maybe AMR will make this available for free (they often do that on lead stories for a period of time).

Still, there's a place for detailed analysis and there's a place for quick-hit analysis. Aberdeen and AMR are in entirely different businesses, BTW.

Michael Lamoureux's Gravatar I agree ... one's more benchmarking and one's more insight ... but my point is that as good as it may be, it's not appropriate for everyone, because of the heavy price tag it carries, and your comment that "it's further reason why you should be" needs to be qualified, in my view, slightly because of this fact.
