Two Practitioner Takes on Outsourcing

Earlier in the month, Supply Management featured two practitioner perspectives on whether or not "purchasing should be outsourced". Even if you're only mildly considering the outsourcing question for a handful of categories, I'd suggest checking out the two opinions presented. Personally, I think the case against outsourcing in the article is poorly argued and has many logic and argument flaws (e.g., falling back on the "broader economic implications" of outsourcing as one reason against it). But make up your own mind, as it's important to grasp both sides of the story to make the most informed decision. Perhaps the next and more interesting question to ask is why do such a material percentage of outsourcing deals -- relative to technology and consulting ones -- end in a "no decision" versus an award?
