Will There be a "Pro to Know" Non-Vendor Blogger this year?

Since I've not been contacted by Supply and Demand Chain Executive's Andrew Reece and his compatriots yet, I assume that I will not be in their "Pro's to Know" list this year (they listed me last year, and I was nominated this year). That's fine. No hard feelings on my part. But I sincerely hope that another blogger -- especially one who sits in a market neutral, non-vendor seat -- such as Michael Lamoureux is picked. Without question, bloggers are playing an increasing role in influencing the future direction of the procurement and supply chain market. From analyzing general market trends with great frequency and detail to advising practitioners on vendor selection, we've come an amazingly long way as a group, even in just the past year. Supply and Demand Chain Executive should recognize this. If they don't, it will hurt their credibility as an objective grader and measure of talent and influence in this sector.

As an aside, I've toyed with the idea of doing a similar award concept on Spend Matters, albeit with a sense of humor involved and no commercial side to it. Perhaps a "hot or not" list might be a good approach to model. Heck, I might even be able to convince The Spend Fool to join as an honorary judge and master of ceremonies. Thoughts?

I think this year belongs to the Vendor Bloggers. With the exception of your SpendMatters' editor, the best known bloggers in the space are all associated with vendors.

Not that this is bad - it's certainly good for Supply & Demand Chain Executive - after all, who's more likely to have $5,500 to throw at a full page advertisement in the print edition? An independent blogger, like you or, I who lives off of consulting income and can do a lot with $5,500, or a successful software company with millions of dollars of licensing revenue? I'm certainly not implying that this is how they make their decisions, just noting that it could work out well for them.

I think you should do your own vendor-neutral "hot list". I'd be willing to share my input on nominations!

Michael,

You're nominated, as long as you're willing to submit to a picture for a 1-10 voting scale wearing a Borat pair of swim trunks ;-)

Someone sent me a picture of Michael already for the hot list. On a 1-10 score ...

Wow! I didn't think anyone would recognize me in that toupee and fake moustache ... I figured they were so bad that no one would want to look twice!

Jason, it would be interesting to see your top 10. I come from the EIPP/Document Exchange side. UK firms are not as cash rich as US firms. Only Accountis (£1.3m turnover) has a blog. Others do not see the value in blogging - can't blame them as the sector is notoriously too hard.

Michaeal, I cannot see how this year belongs to Vendor Bloggers as you put it - as far as this side of the water is concerned.

I am certainly little, but with my body looking more like Michael's everyday, there's no way that I'll be poor for long if I can monetize my pecs like him ...

Manoj:

Simple ... I only know of two bloggers who have made the "Pros to Know" list as of now ... and both are vendor bloggers (who hold senior roles in their companies).

Michael

Let me guess: David Bush and Tim Minahan. Both deserve it. Kudos to them.

Don't know about Tim Minahan ... do know David Bush was selected again and that Dave Stephens is a new inductee to the list.
