Who Has Got the Eyeballs? Online Spend Management Traffic

Even though Alexa is not a perfectly accurate gauge of web traffic -- especially for lower traffic sites -- it's probably the best measure we have today to understand where everyone is going online to learn about procurement and supply chain issues. Below is a result of some research I did tonight to find out the most trafficked sites in our sector. The list is in descending order based on each sites' 3 month overall web traffic rank. A lower number is better, as it represents the ranking relative to all sites on the web. For example, Yahoo, Google, and YouTube are ranked 1, 2, and 3 on Alexa.

What's my top prediction for the next 12 months for our sector? Even though I'm biased, I bet we'll see the blogs continue to gain and pass traditional media sites. As for the fastest growing site from a rank order traffic standpoint, my money is on Sourcing Innovation. Anyone care to cast their own predictions or share their thoughts?

I was surprised to see you miss off European Leaders of Procurement? Any stats for the ELP network?

I've added it.

Thanks for reminding me about Alexa, Jason. I hadn't checked that site in a long time!

I appreciate your research - it is rewarding to know that www.NextLevelPurchasing.com was second only to purchasing.com on your list without personally having to do the legwork to compare all of those sites.

I think this info also serves your readership from the vendor world in terms of assessing the value of advertising opportunities.

Nice work!

CD,

ISM is still eating your lunch (and Purchasing's, for that matter) as a higher ranked site. (Declining) Membership has its privileges ;-)

Not so fast, "Not so fast."

Did you happen to check out the "Traffic History Graph" and compare ism.ws side-by-side with nextlevelpurchasing.com over a three year period?

ISM was way far ahead three years ago. Our graph has gone up over time and theirs has gone down over time to where we are almost equal.

Where will the graph be in one year? Three years?

One has to consider the trend as well as the snapshot.

Good to have dialogue, though!

Not bad stats for the leaders, but still nothing close to the dilbert blog:

1 wk: 34,817
3 mos: 25,718

Spend still isn't taken more seriously than bad management satire. Long road ahead I'm afraid!
