Senator Larry Craig Sparks a Procurement Debate ...

By now, you've probably already read about Senator Larry Craig's bathroom episode in the Minneapolis airport. I won't go into the details on these pages. But what is noteworthy about the incident from a Spend Management perspective (hat-tip: Tony Poshek) is how the Minneapolis airport is investing $25,000 to put in new dividing walls that stretch to the floor to avoid such incidents in the future in the most "trafficked" bathrooms (one wonders if warning signs suggesting narrower stances and no foot tapping would have been cheaper and done the same trick). Now for all those government purchasing experts in the audience, would this fall under an emergency indirect or a capital spending budget line?

curious's Gravatar I wonder if we would define the supply strategy here as one focused on strategic partnering or a transactional relationship.

SpendFool's Gravatar I think the stall suppliers are hoping that the job is not going to be "high touch" relationship.

inside the belt(way)'s Gravatar Guys, let's keep this clean, OK? Seriously, we're dealing a United States Senator from I-da-ho ... get it ;-)

BTW ... Worse case if he resigns, he can always get a job with the UN Procurement Group. I hear they're looking for someone with such charisma to stand up in the face of such accusations.

Mark Olejarczyk's Gravatar I wonder if this approach (longer wals) will just give Larry more privacy to do his thing; and thereby make the problem worse?

Jason Busch's Gravatar Mark,

Good thought ... I'm beginning to think this is more of a demand management issue than anything else ... :-}
