Siemens Scoops up UGS

I'm a bit later than usual on covering this deal because I've been 110% heads-down this week on project work (the blog has largely been on autopilot from posts I wrote last weekend), but I thought it was important to call out as quickly as possible that Siemens has acquired UGS. According to Cadalyst, the "agreement was made between Siemens and current UGS owners, Bain Capital, Silver Lake Partners and Warburg Pincus, in a move to expand Siemens' industrial software portfolio. The purchase price amounts to US$3.5 billion, including assumption of existing debt, according to the companies."

In the coming week, I look forward to digging into the deal in more detail and learning what it will mean for the Teamcenter Supplier Relationship Management product lines (including the previously integrated eBreviate suite). Clearly, there's a huge link between design and sourcing, but it's not one that any of the existing media outlets I've read have covered as it pertains to this deal.
