Empower Dispatch: Supply Management Excellence Awards

Earlier this summer, Procuri asked me, along with three other panel members, to sift through dozens of companies nominated to achieve a Supply Management Excellence award from Procuri. The four categories included: strategic sourcing, contract management, supplier management, and overall excellence in supply management. Late this morning at Empower, Tim Minahan unveiled the award winners. For strategic sourcing, Sun Microsystems took the prize (no surprise given the hundreds of millions of dollars Sun has saved through e-sourcing over the years). Blue Cross, Blue Shield of Florida came in tops for contract management. For more on this prize, check back later this week. I will be highlighting BCBS's contract management success story in the coming days on Spend Matters. In the supplier management category, Bank of America came in first. And for overall supply excellence, Boots Company, a European pharmacy retailer which puts Walgreens and CVS's merchandising to shame IMHO, came in number one, proving to the market that they lead both in the "buy" and "sell" side in their industry.
