What Keeps CPOs Awake at Night ... It's the Talent!
Over on Supply Excellence, check out Tim Minahan’s post that shares some of the findings from Aberdeen’s recent CPO research. What is the most important challenge procurement executives are facing? It's simple: "Today’s top supply risk is recruiting and keeping top talent," according to Aberdeen's study. Tim later opines: "The point: this is not your father’s supply management function. Pressures from globalization, outsourcing, and technology require new skills that most veteran procurement managers lack." I could not agree more with the pressing need to identify and retain new types of talent. If you're interested in the subject, I would encourage you to check out three previous posts on the subject which you can find here, here and here.

Hallelujah!!!!!! I wish I had some more time to comment on this(I promise I will try this weekend). All the slick sourcing technical tools are for nought unless this issue is resolved. Every client we talk to is not losing sleep at night worried about their spend analytical tools(not trying to disparage anything here). What they are worried about is losing the talent game. I was in the hospital waiting room yesterday and picked up an old issue of the Economist that identified the talent game as the number one issue facing organizations today. Will go through that this weekend and try to pick out some points. I hope my bias is not too obvious :-)
